Acroyoga combines elements of Yoga and Thai massage with the dynamic power of Partner Acrobatic movements, to form a new and joyous practice that can get quite addictive! Unlike regular yoga, which is generally a solo practice, Acroyoga brings an element of community, support and sharing to the practice, as people work together to create something truly magical. One partner, the base, typically lies on his back with legs raised at 90 degrees, and the flyer then performs various stretches or balances whilst elevated from the ground on the base's feet. A third person, the spotter, is there to keep everything safe and to offer support and assistance where needed.

The moves can be static or dynamic- a powerful and challenging balance or transition, or simply stretching passively whilst hanging upside down.

This workshop will offer an introduction to the various aspects of Acroyoga, and is open to all- no prior experience necessary. After warming up with a short yoga flow and some partner strength training, you will learn some of the classic Acroyoga moves, and how to base, fly, and spot with confidence. Finally, we’ll cool down with some guided Thai massage moves.

No partner needed for the class, but if you have a partner you want to work with, that’s cool too. Comfortable but close-fitting clothing is best- suitable for hanging upside-down!

Expect fun, challenges, and laughter - this is yoga as you never experienced it before...

Fiona Ashley is a playful and passionate teacher, with a particular fondness for being upside-down!

After many years of Yoga practice, she began full-time teaching in 2010 and holds Vinyasa style classes throughout West Cork and beyond.

She discovered Acroyoga whilst travelling in Thailand some years ago and was immediately drawn to it, only to discover that there were no teachers back home in Ireland. Two years of extensive travel followed, attending workshops, classes and trainings in Europe and beyond. In 2013 Fiona completed her final  Acroyoga training, to become the first certified Acroyoga teacher in Ireland. She currently holds regular Acroyoga classes in Cork city and offers Acroyoga workshops throughout the country, as well as holding regular retreats and holidays both in Ireland and abroad.
